Committees & Task Forces

The Ag Committee puts on the Ag Social that is held in February or March of each year.  Last year’s guest speaker at the social was Tom Osborne.

The Business Boosters/Promotions Committee
sponsors Appreciation Day, Moonlight Madness, Christmas promotions and other retail events.

Chamber Ambassadors organize ribbon cuttings, ground-breaking ceremonies, convention registration help, and they are the welcoming committee as well.

The Business & Industry Committee
puts on the Sophomore Career Expo, Junior Career mapping, and the Adopt-a-School program.

The NCIP program
(Nebraska Community Improvement Program) documents information from various projects conducted throughout the community during the year based on impact and number of volunteers of all ages.  The NCIP plans, organizes, and assembles a community book to submit for judging.  The book provides judges with project presentations and a tour of the community when they visit our town.  Awards are handed out in November at the annual NCIP convention.

The Newcomers Task Force provides the newcomers with a welcome packet including information on churches, day cares, and countywide information.  They also sponsor the annual Newcomers Picnic that is held in August and everyone that moved to Sidney in the last 1 1/2 years are invited to attend.

The Technology Committee
provides surveys to determine business and individual usage and need countywide.  They also assist with finding ways to bring faster technology to our area as well as apply for grants to assist the community in the technology field.

The Visitors Committee
promotes Sidney through marketing and in various state and national publications, numerous signs are taken care of and paid for by the committee, they support and encourage convention planners to look at Sidney and have sponsored conventions, they provide convention welcome packets, fudge and name tags, man the tourism caboose and take part in Sport & Travel shows.

The Buildings and Grounds Committee is responsible for the upkeep and care of the building and grounds at the Chamber.

The Ladies Chamber, which is a division of the Chamber, has their own constitution and bylaws that are consistent with the corporation’s.  They are in charge of Dress Down Day, Downtown Beautification, Light Pole decoration, serving at Appreciation Day, and have a WNCC scholarship program.

The Main Street Program utilizes four elements, which are integrated to create a positive image for the downtown.

The Organization Committee gets everyone working toward the same goal by building consensus and cooperation among the groups that have an important stake in our downtown.

The Promotions/Business Boosters committee sells the image and promise of Main Street by marketing the district’s unique characteristics to shoppers, investors, new businesses, and visitors.  An effective promotion strategy includes advertising, retail promotional activities, special events and marketing campaigns.

The
Design Committee gets Main Street in top physical shape by creating an inviting atmosphere though sensitive and appropriate building facades, window displays, parking areas, signs, sidewalks, street lights, and landscaping.

The Economic Vitality Committee restructures the district’s market into a mixed-use business base with retail and service businesses, entertainment and housing.  It starts by helping existing businesses expand and recruiting new ones to respond to today’s market.  Main Street programs help to convert unused spaces into productive property and sharpen the competitiveness of business enterprises.

This is just a small overview of all the things these different committees do.  If you would like more information, or would like to volunteer for any of these committees, please call the Chamber office at 254-5851.
