Architect to Sketch Historic
Downtown Sidney
Scott Day,
Principal of Urban Development Services, UDS, in San Antonio, TX and
Paul Simo, Principal of Preser-vision in Atlanta, GA, will provide
drawings for a select number of buildings located in the downtown
National Register Historic District. Day and Simo are design consultants
specializing in retail districts.
The design team will be in
Sidney on Monday, March 19, for a luncheon at the Security First Bank
Community Room at noon. The team will give a brief presentation on why it is
important to improve a business's facade, how this can be done affordably
and, more importantly, how it can improve the bottom line of a business.
There will also be a presentation regarding the Main Street Incentive
Program, which is a matching grant given to property qualifying facade
improvements.
The design team will be meeting
one-on-one with interested property owners in the target area. Megan McGown,
Executive Director of the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce and Manager of
the Historic Downtown Sidney Program has details on these meetings and can
help interested building owners register for the visits in advance.
The team will use information from the visits to develop a drawing and a
management plan for each building that allows the project to move forward
when the property owner decides to make improvements.
The design assistance team will
provide a conceptual facade improvement sketch of these buildings. All the
buildings in the target area will receive a sketch. The team will meet only
with those interested in one-on-one visits, so pre-registration is
preferred. These services are of no cost to the property owner.
